Michigan Supreme Court to Keep Trump on Ballot

As the Republican primary race heats up, Michigan's Supreme Court voted to allow former president Donald Trump (R) on the ballot for the state's primary.

Prior to the ruling, multiple groups sued the state's supreme court to bar the former president from being on the state's primary ballot. However, the Michigan Supreme Court stated that it was the role of Congress to decide if Trump was a legitimate candidate or not.

On Dec. 19, the Colorado Supreme Court voted to remove Trump from the state's 2024 primary election ballot for his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection. The vote has been seen as highly controversial and many have expressed their frustration with the ruling.

Trump has been lambasted by critics for denying the results of the 2020 presidential election. Several individuals who agreed with his stance on the election would storm the Capitol on Jan. 6, in an attempt to stop the confirmation process of President Joe Biden (D) as the 47th president.

The former president asked several officials, in states where he believed he won the most votes, to not certify Biden. Trump's requests are seen as being in violation of the law and have resulted in him being tied up in multiple legal cases.

The former president was not the only person to face legal cases pertaining to election denial. Trump's allies have also faced lethal troubles ever since charges were brought against them for their alleged roles in the Capitol riots.

The defendants are accused of creating a “criminal racketeering” enterprise to overturn the results of the election in the state of Georgia.

Recently, former New York City Mayor and lawyer to Trump, Rudy Giuliani, was ordered to pay $146 million to two Georgia election workers. Giuliani was accused of defamation by two workers, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss.

The former mayor was convicted of making multiple false statements and accusations that Freeman and Moss had tampered with votes by stuffing ballots.

Furthermore, Giuliani claimed that the two workers used a USB drive in an attempt to rig the 2020 presidential election. The drive that Giuliani claimed to see was actually a mint.

“Today is a good day. A jury stood witness to what Rudy Giuliani did to me and my daughter and held him accountable, and for that I’m thankful. Today is not the end of the road. We still have work to do,” said Freeman as she stood outside the courthouse.
