Escobar Blasts GOP for Listening to Trump on Halting Border Legislation

Texas Representative Veronica Escobar (D) gave an impassioned response to recent reports stating that the GOP wants to stop progress on border legislation in order to help Donald Trump (R) get elected in the 2024 presidential election.

“Of course that's what he wants. Trump wants to keep a broken immigration system, our stock market to crash, and claims that a terrorist attack on our country  is ‘100% certain.’ It's on par with Trump's brand of xenophobia and fear-mongering to whip up his base,” said Rep. Escobar.

Allegedly, in a closed-door meeting, Senate Minority Leader and Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell (R) told fellow GOP Congress members that the party was facing trouble because of Trump’s impending campaign and possible nomination. This meeting comes after Trump reportedly asked McConnell to not pass border legislation so that he could use it to campaign in the upcoming presidential election.

The Kentucky Senator stated, “When we started this, the border united us and Ukraine divided us” and that “The politics on this have changed.” McConnell seemed confused in his ideas on what to do and claimed that the GOP was in a “quandary.”

Utah Senator Mitt Romney (R) questioned the ordeal as he lamented McConnell’s consideration of Trump’s desires.

“I think the border is a very important issue for Donald Trump. And the fact that he would communicate to Republican senators and congresspeople that he doesn't want us to solve the border problem because he wants to blame Biden for it is is really appalling,” stated Romney.

The Utah Senator has been a constant critic of Trump and his rhetoric. Furthermore, he has clashed on different occasions with Trump-supporting Congress members such as George Santos who was recently expelled from Congress.

Much to his dismay, Romney has been made well aware of the different changes in the Republican party. In September, the congressman announced his plans to end his time as senator after 2025, calling for a "new generation of leaders" in the process.
