Texas Representative Beth Van Duyne (R) tore into Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and blamed him for the security issues at the U.S.-Mexico border.
“Biden and Mayorkas’ intentional border crisis is a slap in the face to hardworking Texans who pay taxes so the federal government can defend and protect them from national security threats. The administration MUST do their job and put Americans first. @CatOriel,” tweeted Rep. Van Duyne.
The Texas congresswoman backed Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) for how he has handled the situation and the increase in migrants crossing the border.
“We’re having an invasion of our country. I absolutely support Governor Abbott having to do what he is doing because the federal government’s policies are causing this catastrophe. But the fact is he shouldn’t have to do it,” stated Van Duyne.
The Texas representative continued, “This is the federal government’s responsibility. They collect taxes from hardworking Texans to be able to do this job. And on top of that, you know, now the states are having to spend billions of dollars on its own to do the job that they’re sending money to D.C. to do. But again, when you look at the number of people who are dying, 100,000 deaths from fentanyl. Five Texans are dying from that poisoning every day in our state. And it’s a catastrophe. It does not have to happen.”
Van Duyne attacked President Joe Biden for not using executive action to shut down the border.
“We’re seeing the destruction and the death of our country and our people. And instead of doing something about it, you’ve got an administration who was wiping his hands and now blaming Congress when they know if he just were to take it seriously and start enforcing our laws they could get control of our border tomorrow.”
Fellow GOP Congress member Pat Fallon (R) expressed his extreme skepticism at the ability of the President and Secretary of Homeland Security to shut down the border.
“I don’t trust Biden and Mayorkas at all. They don’t enforce existing law so let’s make a new law and provide them the discretion to completely ignore it. It gets you nowhere. You know what that is? Treading water. You’re not swimming towards shore,” said Fallon.
