House Releases 'Swamp Omnibus,' Roy Calls out Republicans

The House has released the so-called "Swamp Omnibus," and some Republicans are furious. the $1.2 trillion funding deal, negotiated by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R), is now receiving negative backlash from Republicans who argue that there was not enough time to review the robust package. Texas Rep. Chip Roy (R), who opposed the “swamp omnibus” deal, is now taking issue with Republicans, accusing them of “surrendering” policies.

The House Freedom Caucus urged Republican members of Congress to vote against the spending package, which was negotiated to avoid a partial government shutdown on Friday.

Earlier this week, the House Freedom Caucus denounced the “minibus,” which includes six bills, for excluding controversial policy riders, including earmarks, and for its price tag.

When all was said and done, the House released the “minibus,” which Rep. Roy is calling the “swamp omnibus,” and the Texas Republican has called it “one of the worst bills with one of the worst processes I have ever seen.”

After pleading with Republicans over social media to not vote for the minibus, Rep. Roy went on to bash Republicans who support it, accusing House Republicans of surrendering important policies to the conservative platform.

Some of the policies that were “surrendered” include the prohibition of using funds from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from being used to damage or remove President Donald Trump’s (R) border wall, requiring Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas prioritize ICE funds to detail illegal immigrants and to ensure that illegal immigrants on the non-detained docket are enrolled in the ATD program with GPS monitoring, and blocking a COVID-19 vaccine mandate against DHS employees, among others.

In a last effort to encourage Republicans not to vote for the minibus, the House Freedom Caucus warned that “a massive spending bill drafted in secrecy and dropped on us in the middle of the night is being rushed to the House floor for a vote with less than 36 hours to review.”
