Roy Says Social Conservative Groups are 'Cowering'

Texas Rep. Chip Roy (R) is engaged in a social media spat with conservatives over the recent minibus that was released. The minibus, which he deems the “Swamp Omnibus,” has been called a betrayal to conservative principles and policies. Social conservative groups are now responding to Rep. Troy's criticism that they are “cowering in the corner.”

In order to avoid a partial government shutdown, the House is attempting to rush the passing of a minibus, which lawmakers like Rep. Roy argue has not been properly vetted. Upon further inspection, the minibus provides funding for several measures that Republicans have vehemently spoken against.

Taking to the House floor to air his grievances, Rep. Roy not only vehemently opposed the spending package, but he also took issue with social conservative groups that were not speaking out against the contents of the bill.

Speaking from the House floor, Rep. Roy called out the groups by expressing that “all you social conservative groups out there, all you so called pro-lifers, where the hell are you? Crickets. Silence, because you care about political power more than the very thing you say you’re here for.”

Since the release of the spending package, Rep. Roy has shared groups that opposed the spending bill, and now leaders are responding.

Terry Schilling, the president of the American Principles Project responded to the Texas Republicans’ comments, saying that the group “got the bill after you and our team has been pouring over it as soon as we got it. MAYBE – just maybe – try attacking Democrats for this? Instead of the guys like us who are usually attacking the sell out Republicans alongside you.”

In response to Schillings’ comments, Rep. Roy questioned, “so you oppose it & will score against?”

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R) has received swift backlash for the minibus. Critics argue that he has ignored their demands as well as putting future generations in danger of being swamped in federal debt.
