Cruz Claims Schumer Avoiding 'Responsibility' by Refusing to Hold Mayorkas Impeachment Trial

Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) went after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D) and other Senate members refusing to hold an impeachment trial for Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

In February, the House impeached Secretary of Homeland Security. However, the hearing has gone nowhere in the Senate, and many have accused it of being a waste of time.

“What Chuck Schumer is trying to do is avoid Senate Democrats going on record,” said Sen. Cruz.

The Texas politician blasted the president’s supporters as he attacked Schumer for his refusal to hold a trial.

“This is an absolute dereliction of duty and an abrogation of the Senate's constitutional responsibilities. And the reason Schumer is trying to do this is entirely political,” said Cruz.

“But if Democrats vote in table, what does that say about the record on the border? Or it says Democrats are trying to avoid number one, responsibility, but number two, they're trying to cover up the issue. The reason they want to table the Articles of Impeachment, which has never happened in over 200 years of our nation's history, no Articles of Impeachment have ever been tabled,” said the skeptical Texas lawmaker.

Cruz pointed to former President Donald Trump’s two impeachments in which the Senate held trial.

The congressman stated, “When the Democrats impeached Donald Trump, Republicans had a majority in the Senate. Under their theory, nothing would have prevented us from just tabling and saying, No, we're not going to have a trial. We're not going to hear any witnesses. We're not going to hear any evidence. We're not going to allow the house managers present their case, we're just going to table that would have been wrong.”

“That's what the Democrats are trying to do here. And by the way, y'all would have gone nuts. If Republicans had tried to do that, it would have been wrong. The same standard should apply here,” continued Cruz.

“But this is entirely about politics, and for Chuck Schumer and the Democrats, politics and power matters more than protecting the American people from the invasion that is unfolding at our southern border and from the violent criminals that Joe Biden continues to release into this country to continue to murder Americans," concluded the disgruntled representative.
