Cruz Reflects on 12 Years in Senate, Promises to Fight for Texans

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) recently spoke to Fox News reflecting on his 12-year tenure in the United States Senate while also looking forward to a third term in the upper chamber.

He must defeat Representative Colin Allred (D-TX) in order to retain his seat.

The Lone Star state senator insisted that his main priority has always been to serve the people of Texas through sponsoring policies to aid in their day-to-day lives.

“Look, it’s possible to walk and chew gum at the same time. I’ve been in the Senate for 12 years and from the very first day I arrived, my role was – number one – to lead the fight for the people of Texas. Now what does that mean? That means if there are bad policies that will hurt Texas, I’m proud to lead the fight against them. And that’s true whether those policies come from Barack Obama or Chuck Schumer or Joe Biden,” said Sen. Cruz.

He continued, “And we’ve seen policies after policies really harmful to Texas. Joe Biden’s chaotic, open border. Policies that undermine law enforcement, undermine police officers, release violent criminals. Policies that attack jobs, that attack small businesses, that attack energy. Policies that make it harder for working men and women to make ends meet. Policies that undermine free speech or religious liberty or the Second Amendment.”

Sen. Cruz did not fail to mince words regarding some of the policies that have come out of Washington during his time in the political realm.

He concluded, “I am proud to lead the fight against every dumbass idea that comes out of the Biden White House and there is no shortage of ideas that are really bad ideas.”

Last month, Rep. Allred’s campaign announced they had outraised Cruz by over $2.5 million with a $1 million cash-on-hand advantage in the first quarter. Sen. Cruz is looking to defend his seat in the upper chamber for the second time after defeating his first challenger, Beto O’Rourke, in 2018.

That year, Cruz faced a bit of a scare from O’Rourke (D) as the incumbent won by just 2.6 points. In the state of Texas, however, that translates to over 200,000 votes.

In early April, a poll from the Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation found that Cruz only had a five-point lead over Allred. However, the latest poll from YouGov – sponsored by the Texas Politics Project at the University of Texas – gives Cruz a 13-point advantage.
