Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) spoke to ABC13 (Houston) to discuss his opponent, Representative Colin Allred (D-TX).

The Texas senator said this race will simply come down to his record against the U.S. congressman’s.

“Let me tell what this election is going to be about: It’s going to be about my record, and it’s going to be about Colin Allred’s record. Colin Allred is an extremely liberal Democrat congressman whose first four years in Congress he voted 100% with Nancy Pelosi,” said Sen. Cruz.

He continued by sharing what he believes has been the consequences of Rep. Allred’s voting record.

“He’s voted in favor of open borders over and over and over again. He’s voted in favor of releasing violent criminals over and over and over again. Just a few weeks ago, he voted with Joe Biden in favor of his stopping new permits to export liquid natural gas. Every one of those votes hurts the people of Texas,” said Sen. Cruz.

However, Rep. Allred released a video discussing his bipartisan efforts at the border and added a jab at his opponent Sen. Cruz.

“Ted Cruz chooses cynical partisan politics over doing what’s best for Texas. While visiting Laredo, I was proud to discuss my bipartisan work for solutions to our border crisis. It’s time Texas had a Senator dedicated to delivering results,” said Rep. Allred.

In late March, Allred voted for the appropriations bill to fund the government. He released a statement concerning his support for the legislation.

“This bipartisan bill builds on the package we passed last month in making critical investments for Texas,” said Allred. “On top of important funding for child care, health care and pay raises for our service members this bill includes long overdue funds to help secure our border to help hire more Border Patrol Agents as well as funds for new technology and resources for local communities. Though long overdue, this bill is a good step toward border security and helping our economy, and I urge the Senate to pass it immediately.”

Sen. Cruz voted against the bill. It was signed by President Joe Biden (D) on March 23.

According to the latest polling from Marist College, Cruz holds a 6-point lead over Allred (51%-45%).
