The Senate has officially voted to confirm the 200th federal judge since President Joe Biden (D) took office. The president released a brief statement detailing his thoughts on the achievement.
“Today, we reached another milestone in the effort to protect the freedoms and liberties of all Americans:
The confirmation of the 200th federal judge since I took office,” said the president.
Biden continued, “Judges matter. They have the power to uphold basic rights or to roll them back. They hear cases that decide whether Americans have the freedom to make their own health care decisions; to cast their ballots; to unionize; and to breathe clean air and drink clean water.”
“Going forward, I will continue my solemn responsibility of nominating individuals who have excelled in their professional careers, who reflect the communities they serve, and who apply the law impartially and without favoritism,” concluded Biden.
The Senate confirmed Krissa Lanham and Angela Martinez to federal district court seats in Arizona. Thus bringing the total number of remaining seats to 40.
“Judges matter,” the president said in a statement marking the 200th confirmation. “These men and women have the power to uphold basic rights or to roll them back.”
“They hear cases that decide whether women have the freedom to make their own reproductive healthcare decisions; whether Americans have the freedom to cast their ballots; whether workers have the freedom to unionize and make a living wage for their families; and whether children have the freedom to breathe clean air and drink clean water,” concluded Biden.
Recently, Biden announced his new plan to eradicate millions of dollars in student loan debt. The president’s student loan forgiveness could potentially forgive debt for around 25 million Americans.
“From day one, my administration has been committed to fixing the broken student loan system. And making sure that higher education’s a ticket to the middle class, not a barrier,” said Biden.
“My administration has approved debt cancellation for 4 million Americans through various actions,” said Biden. “And today, I’m announcing new plans that will cancel student debt for millions more. In total, these plans would cancel some or all student debt for 30 million Americans when combined with everything we’ve done so far.”
