Sessions Says Cartels, Chinese Partnership is an 'Unholy Alliance'

Representatives Pete Sessions (R-TX) and Beth Van Duyne (R-TX) spoke to Texas Politics regarding the southern border, the cartels, the Chinese, and the recent news surrounding eight suspected individuals with ties to ISIS being arrested.

When asked about this, Rep. Sessions spoke about how the FBI has been “sounding the alarm” on this issue for a while.

“FBI Director Wray has – for at least a full year, been sounding the alarm about the desperate need for us to understand that national security has been compromised,” said Rep. Sessions. “FBI Director Wray has been straightforward to say that he believes that the links to the people who are at our border and who've come across are those that would not pass screens to be able to come into the country, and he has those huge concerns. FBI Director Wray has been straightforward to say that he believes that these huge groups of young men who are of military age are a real problem. And FBI Director Wray has also stated that he clearly believes that the people that are coming across are associated with drug cartels and other people.”

Additionally, Rep. Van Duyne mentioned President Biden’s “meaningless” executive orders despite the border crisis receiving a lot of attention and numbers have decreased.

“I mean, look, you just had eight suspected ISIS terrorists that came over the border. I don't know that they can call it a blackout … The executive orders from the president are meaningless when you have private memos that basically tell CBP (U.S. Customs and Border Protection) not to do their job right,” said the Texas congresswoman.

Furthermore, Rep. Sessions discussed Mexico’s response (or lack thereof) to the border crisis as well as the relationship between the cartels and the Chinese.

“Well, what is not being reported and people are not hearing is the undercurrents of how Mexico will tackle long-term opposition to the United States because they’ve been given a green light to control not just the border, but the inflow of goods and services with the Chinese that they formed a triumvirate and we’re in real trouble,” said Sessions. “They have allowed this to happen rather than deterring it, rather than fighting it, and the people on the front lines see it every day.”

Moreover, when asked if there was an “unholy alliance” between the cartels and China, the Texas congressman said, “Make no mistake about it. Direct link.”
