Hunt Details President Trump's Planned Afghanistan Withdrawal

Texas Rep. Wesley Hunt (R) continues to bat for President Donald Trump (R). This week, during an appearance with Florida Rep. Byron Donalds (R) on the Sage Steele Show, Rep. Hunt detailed a story regarding President Trump's planned Afghanistan withdrawal. While meeting with Taliban leaders, President Trump threatened them if his "conditions based" withdrawal wasn't met.

During the first presidential debate last month, the topic of withdrawing from Afghanistan was broached. President Trump chided President Joe Biden (D) for the withdrawal, arguing that it was a failure and embarrassment.

In the interview with Steele, Rep. Hunt shared his "favorite President Trump story."

Recounting a meeting between President Trump, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Taliban leadership, and a translator, Rep. Hunt drew a distinction between the way that President Biden oversaw the Afghanistan withdrawal and the way that President Trump would have overseen it had he continued in office.

"When we were negotiating with the Taliban, President Trump was still the president. President Trump wanted to get out of Afghanistan, but he wanted a conditions based withdrawal, meaning that you do what we tell you to do, and then we'll start pulling troops back slowly as long as you abide by our rules," Rep. Hunt explained.

"President Trump looked at the Taliban leader and said this, 'I want to leave Afghanistan, but it's going to be a conditions based withdrawal.... if you harm a hair on a single American, I'm going to kill you... reached in his pocket, pulled out a satellite photo of the leader of the Taliban's home, and handed it to him, got up, and walked out the room," he added.

President Biden has received significant criticism from Republicans over his withdrawal from Afghanistan. Earlier this year, Texas Rep. Michael McCaul (R) chided the president over allegedly refusing to heed warnings over the exit.
