Roy Calls Pelosi Comments on Biden 'Fake Praise'

In an interview with Leslie Stahl during the CBS Sunday Morning segment, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D) praised President Joe Biden (D). The incumbent president has faced a tough situation in office since announcing he would no longer seek reelection. Amidst sinking polling numbers, Rep. Pelosi called President Biden “a consequential president.” Texas Rep. Chip Roy (D) is rebuking the suggestion, calling it an example of "fake praise."

The president has been mum since announcing he would not seek reelection. With the focus shifting to Vice President Kamala Harris (D), some lawmakers are reflecting on President Biden’s time in office.

Rep. Pelosi, one of several high-profile Democrats who called for the incumbent to not seek reelection, discussed the president’s time in office with Stahl. Calling him “a consequential president of the United States,” Rep. Pelosi added that President Biden is “a Mount Rushmore kind of president of the United States.”

Stahl questioned Rep. Pelosi’s assertion, asking if it should be “Lincoln and Joe Biden,” and the California Democrat clarified that “you got Teddy Roosevelt up there, and he’s wonderful. I don’t say take him down, but you can add Biden.”

The suggestion of including the president in Mount Rushmore has left some scratching their heads, but some like Rep.Roy are responding to Rep. Pelosi by calling her words “fake praise.”

The Texas Republican, who’s long blamed the president for the ongoing “border crisis,” took to social media to write “after leading the subversive effort to remove him from the ballot, they throw around fake praise like this,” likely alluding to the praise being shared to possibly boost Vice President Harris’ own efforts to win the presidency.

“The less power these people have the better,” Rep. Roy added, urging that Democrats should “leave Teddy Roosevelt alone.”
