Van Duyne Says Harris Only Cares About 'Maintaining Power'

Texas Republicans continue to sound the alarm on the "border crisis," and as Vice President Kamala Harris (D) readies to join President Donald Trump (R) on the debate stage, the criticism has only amplified. From controversy in Springfield, Ohio to non-citizens being removed from voting rolls in several states, illegal immigration has dominated the media. Texas Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R) is now calling into question Vice President Harris’ intention to run for office, accusing her of only caring about “maintaining power.”

This week, the House Judiciary committee held a hearing, inviting family members of those who have been tragically affected by the “open border policy” of the Biden Administration.

Among the speakers was Alexis Nungaray, the mother of Jocelyn Nungaray, who was killed in Texas this past June.

In her statement, Nungaray shared that “because of the Biden-Harris administration open border policies, catch and release, they were enrolled in the Alternatives to Detention program” in reference to the two Venezuelan nationals who were charged with Jocelyn’s murder.

“This meant that they were released into the United States. It was not even a full three weeks later that they would take my daughter Jocelyn Nungaray’s life.”

Rep. Van Duyne is now questioning what Vice President Harris would do to solve the issue considering that she was previously tasked by President Joe Biden (D) to handle the problem.

“Two month’s into President Biden’s Administration, he put her in charge of controlling the border. She says she’s gonna do that’ Day 1.’ My question to her is you’ve been in over 1,000 days. How soon can ya start?” Rep. Van Duyne questioned during an interview with NewsMax.

For Rep. Van Duyne, she accuses Vice President Harris of supporting “open border policies” because Democrats would be “maintaining power”.

“They want 15 million additional illegal immigrants in our country to make up for ground in states like New York and California that historically vote Democrat because they have lost congressional district seats.”

In an exclusive interview with Texas Politics, Rep. Van Duyne also posited that Vice President Harris will "pivot right" on the border during the debate because "she's looking at the same polls that we're looking at." "The problem is that she's had 3 and a half years to do something about it and has chosen to ignore," Rep. Van Duyne commented. "Has she been down to the border yet? And don't tell me El Paso in a sanitized version is 'being down at the border.' The fact is that when she has had an opportunity to go down there, she hasn't."

Texas Rep. Jake Ellzey (R) was also asked about Vice President Harris potentially "pivoting right" on the border during the debate, and he suggested that she should.

"She should pivot. I think the United States needs a secure border, and she is, after all, the ‘Border Czar.’"
