Tension continues to escalate regarding the 2024 presidential election vote, and conservatives are sounding the alarm. Pennsylvania has already warned that it could take days to count their votes, Virginia has removed thousands of non-citizens from its voting rolls, and Texas has done the same. In an effort to quell any malfeasance in the upcoming election, Texas Rep. Chip Roy (R) is calling on his congressional colleagues to "put up or shut up" on his SAVE Act.
Earlier this year, Rep. Roy introduced the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which includes provisions to ensure that only United States citizens vote in U.S. elections by requiring proof of citizenship at the time of voting in federal elections. The effort has attracted pushback from Democrats like Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D), who recently commented that the United States has laws in place that "prohibit anyone that's not a U.S. citizen from voting."
In reference to the effort, she commented, “I don’t know what they’re [Republicans] scared of. I think what they’re doing is trying to intimidate voters. It’s a voter suppression tactic."
While the bill has received support from Republicans, Rep. Roy argues that the support isn't as productive as it should be. In a recent op-ed published by Breitbart News, he calls on Republicans to move quickly, to "put up or shut up," and to address his voting concern.
The Texas Republican is calling on the House to attach the SAVE Act to a funding resolution, pointing out the funding deadline on September 30th.

In reference to the argument that Rep. Mucarsel-Powell, the Biden Administration, and the Democratic Party have made, he argues that "they fail to mention that the Supreme Court's interpretation of current federal law literally prevents states from verifying the citizenship status of individuals registering to vote in federal elections." "They further fail to tell you that multiple Democrat-run jurisdictions are actively working to register non-citizens to vote," he warns.
Most recently, New York made headlines for a 2022 legislation that would allow non-citizens to vote. The law was ruled unconstitutional on appeal.
