Former President Donald Trump (R) survived a second assassination attempt, this time in West Palm Beach, Florida, at the Trump International Golf Club. The shooter, Ryan Wesley Routh, tried to shoot the former president with an AK-47-style rifle while he was on the course but was thwarted by the United States Secret Service.
It is unclear whether Routh fired any shots. According to CBS News, he was later arrested 50 miles north of the club on I-95. He appeared in federal court on Monday, where he was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. He could face up to 20 years in prison for these offenses.
President Trump's campaign released a short email detailing that he was okay after "there were gunshots in [his] vicinity" and that he would "NEVER SURRENDER!"
However, his latest social media post on X blames the "Communist Left" rhetoric that has been espoused since he entered the presidential race in 2015, specifically by President Joe Biden (D) and Vice President Kamala Harris (D).
