Republicans Condemn Crockett's 'Governor Hot Wheels' Comment

Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D) is facing a wave of condemnation after calling Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) "Governor Hot Wheels". During a video that's making the rounds on social media, the Texas Democrat is seen speaking at a Human Rights Campaign event, calling Governor Abbott "a hot a** mess."

In the video, Rep. Crockett, who is facing a Republican challenger in Sheldon Daniels (R) for her congressional seat, says, "we in these hot a** Texas streets, honey. Y'all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there, come on now. And the only thing hot about him is that he's a hot a** mess, honey."

In response to the comments, Republicans have condemned the Texas Democrat.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) took to social media to write "Jasmine Crockett is despicable."

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R) also weighed in, writing, "shameful behavior from an elected member of Congress. @GregAbbott_TX is a remarkable governor and a great friend. If this is who Democrats are turning to for leadership, they've got a tough road ahead."

Scott Jennings, a conservative pundit on CNN, wrote, "[The] Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, has used a wheelchair since 1984 when he was tragically paralyzed in an accident. Today, the unquestioned leader of the Democratic Party, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, mocks him with the insult 'Governor Hot Wheels.'"

Governor Abbott became paralyzed below the waist on July 1984, at the age of 26, after a tree fell on him while he was jogging.

The Texas lawmaker has faced criticism in the last few weeks after she took part in a TikTok trend that yielded unsuccessful results. This put her at odds with fellow Democrats, who called it "bizarre." She then found herself in more controversy after suggesting that Democrats should 'punch' opponents during the campaign season, extending the analogy to Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R).
