Former MLB Star Mark Teixeira Launches Congressional Campaign in Texas

Mark Teixeira (R), former New York Yankees first baseman and three-time MLB All-Star, officially announced his bid for Texas' 21st Congressional District.

Sharing the news via social media, Teixeira declared his readiness to “help defend President Trump’s America First agenda, Texas families, and individual liberty.”

“As a proud Texan and lifelong conservative who loves our country, I’m ready to fight for the principles that make Texas strong and America exceptional,” Teixeira said in his statement. “It takes teamwork to win, and I’m ready to help defend President Trump’s America First agenda, Texas families, and individual liberty.”

Teixeira’s announcement comes after current Representative Chip Roy (R) declared he would not seek re-election to Congress as he pursues the office of Texas Attorney General.

Roy shared his decision in a campaign video last week on X, emphasizing his commitment to preserving Texas' heritage of “liberty, freedom and self-determination.”

“Texas has a long and proud tradition of rising to defend our homes, our freedom, and our communities,” Roy said. “I’m running for Attorney General to carry on that legacy… unafraid to fight, unafraid to win, and unafraid to defend Texas at every turn.”

In response, Teixeira praised Roy for his “unwavering courage” in representing the district and expressed his determination to keep District 21 “prosperous and free for generations to come.”

Teixeira, 45, had a 14-season Major League Baseball career, debuting with the Texas Rangers in 2003. He also played for the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels, and most notably, the New York Yankees.
