Texas state Senator Brandon Creighton (R) is expected to be named the next Chancellor of the Texas Tech University System. The official announcement is anticipated, following a brief, closed-door meeting of the Board of Regents.
Creighton, a prominent figure in Texas politics, has represented Southeast Texas in the State Senate since 2014, after serving in the Texas House from 2007 to 2014. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and a juris doctorate from Oklahoma City University.
Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows (R) praised Creighton in a public statement on X.
“Congratulations to my friend and colleague Senator Brandon Creighton on his forthcoming selection as the next Chancellor of the Texas Tech University System. His leadership and expertise on higher education matters will be a tremendous benefit to Texas Tech as we continue to grow its impact across the state and nation,” said Burrows.
While Creighton may be less familiar to the West Texas community, Burrows emphasized his alignment with the university’s mission, “I can assure you his values and commitment to excellence will reflect the very spirit of Texas Tech.”
The Texas Tech University System oversees multiple institutions, including Texas Tech University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Angelo State University, and others, serving more than 55,000 students statewide.
If confirmed, Creighton’s appointment would bring a seasoned legislative leader with extensive higher education policy experience into one of the most influential academic leadership roles in the state.
