In the wake of a tragic act of violence at a Michigan Church, multiple Texas politicians have issued strong statements across social media condemning the violence and calling for action to protect religious communities.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott described the tragedy as a "heinous" escalation of violence against places of worship.
"I have directed the Texas Dept. of Public Safety to form task forces with federal and local law enforcement to better safeguard our places of worship," Abbott said on X.
He emphasized that the commandment "thou shall not kill" must be "aggressively enforced by law enforcement" as a core societal principle.
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has urged unity in prayer and action.
"Please join Jan and me in praying for the families whose church was attacked in Michigan," Patrick said.
He warned of a rising hostility toward faith in America, referring to the attack as "pure hate."
Senator Ted Cruz echoed those concerns, highlighting a troubling trend.
"Violent murderers are attacking churches and targeting people of faith," Cruz stated. "Unfortunately, this is a pattern we're seeing over and over again."
The attack left four dead and eight injured before the suspect was killed by police. While the investigation into motive is ongoing, Texas leaders are united in their message to protect religious freedom.
