Texas Longhorns' Michael Taaffe Launches Campaign to Combat Fentanyl Crisis

Michael Taaffe, the defensive back for the Texas Longhorns, has officially launched the "Tackle Fentanyl" campaign in partnership with Texas Against Fentanyl (TXAF), a nonprofit dedicated to fighting the fentanyl epidemic through education, prevention, and advocacy.

Taaffe's commitment to this cause is personal. In 2021, his close friend and former teammate Jake Ehlinger tragically died after ingesting a counterfeit Xanax pill laced with a fatal amount of fentanyl.

"Since Jake's death, I've learned that fentanyl poisoning is taking lives like his every day," said Taaffe. "This work is about education, awareness, and saving lives. If we can stop even one person from taking a counterfeit pill, Jake's legacy will live on through that."

The "Tackle Fentanyl" campaign supports TXAF's mission to educate students, athletes, and parents about the dangers of counterfeit pills and the widespread presence of fentanyl in these substances.

The campaign employs community events, school partnerships, and social media outreach throughout Texas to raise awareness.

Taaffe's advocacy has gained national recognition. He has participated in Crime Stoppers of Houston's "Million for Million" campaign, appeared in a public service announcement for the Texas Department of Transportation, and has been honored for his community service efforts, including selection to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

Through these efforts, Michael Taaffee aims to continue to combat the Fentanyl crisis.
