Ted Cruz, John Cornyn Secure Major Wins in FY 2026 Defense Bill

The U.S. Senate has passed the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which advances key national security measures and delivers major wins for Texas. U.S. Senators Ted Cruz (R) and John Cornyn (R) secured notable victories.

Both Senators secured provisions aimed at strengthening the U.S. Military, enhancing readiness, and supporting Texas servicemembers and installations.

Cruz, who is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, highlighted the importance of maintaining "peace through strength."

"I'm a firm believer in peace through strength, and a strong, well-equipped military is the more integral component of that strategy," said Cruz. "I am proud to support this year's Senate NDAA, which provides our servicemembers with the resources they need to defend our national security and ensure the continued success of Texas military bases."

The bill provides servicemembers with vital resources to defend national security and sustain Texas' military bases. His provisions include the B-1 Protection Act, which preserves bomber operations at Dyess Air Force Base through 2030, and the SkyFoundry Act, which transforms the Red River Army Depot into a hub for small unmanned aircraft systems.

Cruz also supported the International Bridge and Port of Entry Modernization Act, which extends permit deadlines for U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada Crossings through 2024.

Cornyn also secured several national defense measures and funding wins for Texas.

"As our world becomes increasingly dangerous, it's never been more imperative for the United States to ensure proper resources are available to bolster our defense capabilities," said Cornyn.

His provisions include an amendment prohibiting U.S. investment in sensitive Chinese technologies, efforts to strengthen the American nuclear arsenal, and funding to support Texas military installations and personnel.

The FY 2026 NDAA also authorizes a 3.8% military pay raise, expands healthcare access for service members, and fortifies U.S. defenses against global threats.
