Greg Abbott, Donald Trump Highlight Texas Energy Boom in Corpus Christi

Governor Greg Abbott (R) and President Donald Trump (R) highlighted Texas's expanding energy economy during a joint appearance at the Port of Corpus Christi, emphasizing liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, job growth, and infrastructure investment.

Speaking at the port, Abbott credited what he described as a return to "common sense" energy policies under Trump's leadership, contrasting them with prior federal environmental initiatives. He said that Texas is on track to become the global leader in LNG shipments this year, driven in large part by export capacity along the Gulf Coast.

"A common sense principle is getting rid of the Green New Deal and getting back to world energy dominance here in the state of Texas," said Abbott. He added that Texas continues to rank first in net new jobs added and in corporate headquarters relocations, attributing that growth to pro-business regulations and tax policies.

President Trump pointed to federal investments supporting the port's modernization, including funding to deepen and expand the ship channel to accommodate larger vessels and increase exports.

"I approved vital federal funding to deepen the channel and fully modernize the Port of Corpus Christi," said Trump. "Since that personal investment, companies have flocked here, creating tens of thousands of jobs, and generating billions and billions of dollars in revenue for your community."

Both leaders framed the port as central to what they described as a historic American energy resurgence. The Port of Corpus Christi is among the largest energy export hubs in the United States, serving as a key conduit for crude oil and LNG shipments to international markets.

Abbott reiterated that Texas's economic model, one with low taxes, limited regulation, and infrastructure investment, has positioned the state as the nation's leading job creator. Trump echoed that sentiment, arguing that Texas's regulatory climate and workforce development initiatives foster an environment where "free enterprise can flourish."

The event underscored continued alignment between state and federal leadership on expanding domestic energy production, strengthening export infrastructure, and reducing reliance on foreign energy sources.
