Matrix Renewables Breaks Ground on $750 Million Solar Project

Matrix Renewables and EPC Contractor SOLV Energy have officially begun construction on the Tormes Solar Project, a major utility-scale solar development in Navarro County that represents more than $750 million in renewable energy investment.

The start of construction was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony held in May, bringing together company leaders, local officials, landowners, project partners, and community stakeholders.

Once completed, Tormes Solar will be a 457-megawatt direct current (MWdc) photovoltaic solar facility. The project is expected to provide clean energy to the Texas power grid while generating long-term economic benefits for the region.

"We are proud to announce the construction of the Tormes Solar Project and to continue investing in Texas communities that are helping to power the state's and nation's energy future," said Cindy Tindell, Managing Director and head of U.S. for Matrix Renewables.

According to project officials, construction is expected to support approximately 450 local and regional jobs, providing a significant boost to the local workforce. Once operational, the facility will also generate ongoing tax revenue for Navarro County and provide income opportunities for participating landowners.

"Texas continues to lead the nation in renewable energy, and projects like Tormes demonstrate how clean power can strengthen local economies, support landowners, and deliver reliable energy to meet growing demand," said Tindell.

The project also expands Matrix Renewable's partnership with SOLV Energy, which is serving as the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor. The two companies previously collaborated on the successful Stillhouse Solar project in Bell County.

"Tormes marks the next step in a strong partnership between SOLV Energy and Matrix Renewables," said George Hershman, CEO of SOLV Energy. "Building on the success of Stillhouse Solar, this project reflects our shared commitment to delivering high-quality projects and making a positive impact in the communities where we work."

Matrix Renewables continues to expand its energy portfolio, as it currently owns more than 8.7 gigawatts of energy projects in operation or under development across major U.S. energy markets and maintains a global portfolio exceeding 15.5 gigawatts of solar, battery storage, and green hydrogen projects.
