Michael McCaul Pushes Russia Sanctions, Iran Strategy, and SAVE America Act

Congressman Michael McCaul (R) said passing tougher sanctions on Russia would honor the legacy of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, defended continued U.S. support for Ukraine, backed military operations against Iran, and urged Congress to pass the SAVE America Act during an appearance on Fox News Sunday.

McCaul backs Russia sanctions bill.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Emeritus McCaul discussed legislation targeting Russia, the war in Ukraine, and operations involving Iran, and election integrity.

McCaul said passing Senator Lindsey Graham's sanctions bill would be a fitting tribute to the late senator.

Rep. Michael McCaul: "Nothing would honor Lindsey's legacy greater than the Congress passing this sanctions bill."

He said the legislation would not only target Russia's energy sector but also negatively impact Iran and China.

Says Ukraine has momentum

McCaul, who recently visited Ukraine, said he witnessed conditions near the front lines and praised Ukraine's drone operations.

He argued Ukraine is making progress despite ongoing Russian attacks and said continued U.S. support remains important.

According to McCaul, Ukraine still needs additional air defense systems, including interceptor missiles, to defend against nightly ballistic missile strikes.

Rep. McCaul: "Every night when I was in Kyiv, they're getting bombed by ballistic missiles."

Supports continued military pressure on Iran

McCaul also discussed operations involving Iran, saying he supported President Donald Trump's decision to take military action against Iran's nuclear program.

He said negotiations for a ceasefire had not produced results and argued military operations should continue.

According to McCaul, key objectives include:

  • Destroying Iranian missile launch sites.
  • Targeting Shahed drone infrastructure.
  • Reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Reducing Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping.

Advocates for SAVE America Act

McCaul said the SAVE America Act is intended to enforce existing laws requiring U.S. citizenship for voting.

Rep. McCaul: "The law says you have to be a citizen to vote. All we're talking about is implementing the law and enforcing the law."

He also cited concerns about foreign influence in American elections, referencing past investigations involving China and arguing election integrity should remain a national priority.
