Gov. Greg Abbott (R) announced a new 10-year transportation plan projected to invest $138 billion across Texas.
The Texas Department of Transportation plan aims to improve roadway safety, reduce congestion, preserve infrastructure, and strengthen the movement of people and goods throughout the state.
Gov. Abbott said Texas' growing population and economy require continued investment in transportation infrastructure.
The 2027 Unified Transportation Program (UTP), approved by the Texas Transportation Commission in August, includes $95 billion in projected state and federal funding for transportation projects over the next decade.
An additional $43 billion is projected for development and routine maintenance, bringing the plan's total projected investment to $138 billion.
Gov. Greg Abbott: "This $138 billion investment will strengthen our roadways, reduce congestion, improve safety, and support growing communities across Texas."
The UTP prioritizes projects intended to improve safety, connectivity, and mobility while preserving existing roadways.
Many projects are located along road segments identified among Texas' 100 Most Congested Roadways.
Funding for Texas Clear Lanes congestion-relief projects will also increase. Since 2015, the program has supported a projected $90.6 billion in completed, under-construction, and planned non-tolled projects.
The 10-year program includes transportation projects involving more than traditional roadway construction.
The UTP also supports:
The plan also increases funding for rural corridors and key economic centers throughout Texas.
TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams said the plan reflects the transportation demands of one of the nation's fastest-growing states.
He said the investments will focus on safety, preserving existing infrastructure, and maintaining reliability for people and goods.
