Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (R) has introduced the bipartisan Diabetes Prevention Program Reauthorization Act wth Congressman Lou Correa (D-CA) to reauthorize and increase funding for the National Diabetes Prevention Program.
Rep. De La Cruz has introduced the Diabetes Prevention Program Reauthorization Act that would reauthorize the National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) and increase federal funding for programs designed to help Americans reduce their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
Da La Cruz said expanding access to preventive care is important for Texas families and communities affected by diabetes.

Rep. Correa said Type 2 diabetes creates significant health and financial challenges for families across the country.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 40 million Americans are living with diabetes.
The condition is also a significant concern in South Texas. Up to 43% of adults in the Rio Grande Valley are estimated to have diabetes, according to the information provided by De La Cruz.
The legislation has gained support from organizations like the YMCA of the USA. YMCA CEO Suzanne McCormick said the organization has seen how the National Diabetes Prevention Program can help participants make lasting lifestyle changes that reduce their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
The YMCA is among the community-based organizations that provide the CDC's prevention program.
The Diabetes Prevention Program Reauthorization Act would expand federal support for the National Diabetes Prevention Program and increase access to Type 2 diabetes prevention resources. De La Cruz and Correa say the bipartisan legislation would strengthen preventive care for communities across the country, including South Texas.
