Big plans for Texas could be right around the corner as former U.S. Navy Seal and Texas Congressman Dan Crenshaw (R) is poised to continue mixing it up with Progressive trying to make inroads in the Lone Star state.
Rep. Crenshaw has been an outspoken critic of the Democratic Socialists (Squad) in the U.S. Congress, questioning the “very loud, very emboldened” bunch of Progressives that have seen their caucus grow within the Democratic Party.
While Republicans throughout Texas and the country dominated Democrats across the board, Rep. Crenshaw feels that more work needs to be done to stem the tide of Socialism, especially in his home state of Texas.
Crenshaw told Texas Politics that he, like everyone else, was frustrated with the years of ineffectiveness the Texas Republican Party has shown and wanted the state party to do more, and to especially focus on those all-important municipal, school board, and judgeship races across the state.
“I want to see what they (Texas GOP) could do with fundraising. I want them to do their job. I want them to raise a lot of money, and I want them to win races at the local and state level,” said Crenshaw. ‘If they're not doing that, if they are not winning judge seats, if they're not winning local municipalities, if they're not winning school board elections, then get the hell out.”
“Luckily in Harris County we just had our County chairman step down,” added Crenshaw. “That guy was a disaster, and I'm going to take a big role in rebuilding that.”
The lack of leadership that the passionate Crenshaw was referring to ended in late July 2020 when Texas Republicans voted in retired Army Lt. Colonel and former Congressman Allen West to steer the Texas GOP, who also has big plans for Texas.
In the three months with West at its helm, the Texas GOP was able to help Reps. Michael McCaul, Chip Roy, Roger Williams, and Congresswoman-elect Beth Van Duyne, stave off a full-frontal assault by a group of unapologetic Democratic Socialist congressional candidates and help win back some house and senate seats that were lost in previous elections.
West, who has been an ardent supporter of President Donald Trump, told Texas Politics a week ago that under his leadership, the Texas GOP is completely focused on the May 2021 municipal elections in Texas, where he believes Republicans will add to their 2020 wins.
“Good, that’s what I wanted to hear,” said Crenshaw of West’s plans to tackle local races in 2021.
Like Crenshaw, West is not afraid to hurt someone’s feeling or squarely place his cowboy boot up someone’s behind if it’s called for.
Just ask Gov. Greg Abbott, incoming House Speaker Dade Phelan, who both felt West’s wrath after he won their party’s chairmanship.
West sued Gov. Abbott for extending early voting dates and question his leadership for imposing shutdowns as a result of the current pandemic, even protesting outside of the governor’s mansion to boot.
The table is set for a potential Army/Navy or West/Crenshaw one-two-punch in Texas, considering how focused both men were this election cycle to get Republicans elected.
Could we see West jump out of an airplane with Crenshaw in an effort to paint Texas “grow redder and stronger” as he says?
