Susan Wright
The results of the May 1st special election in Texas 6th congressional district were exactly what most political pundits and operatives thoughts it would lead to— a run-off race.
After Rep. Ron Wright (R) died earlier this year, his wife Susan was already primed to run for his open seat, as were 23 other hopeful congressional candidates.
Internal polling showed that Rep. Jake Ellzey (R) was holding a slim lead over Wright until but new Republican Party kingmaker, former President Donald Trump, weighed in.
President Trump endorsed Wright and then sent out a reminder email on election day, solidifying Wright’s first-place finish.
Rep. Ellzey, the former Navy Combat fighter pilot, edged out Democrat Jana Lynne Sanchez to put him in position for a run-off against Wright.
The Final Results:
Susan Wright— 15,052 votes
Jake Ellzey— 10,851 votes
Jane Lynne Sanchez— 10,497 votes
Brian Harrison—8,476 votes
Shawn Lassiter—6,964 votes
John Castro—4,321 votes
