Roy Calls for Halt to Mayorkas' Salary

Republicans continue to push back against the Biden administration, and with the latest development, salaries could be at stake. Texas Rep. Chip Roy (R) has written a letter, calling on the House Appropriations Committee to stop funding Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ salary.

In the letter, Roy argues that the DHS should cease funding Mayorkas’ salary because he is jeopardizing the lives of Americans. Moreover, Roy says that Mayorkas is failing to fulfill the oath he took to enforce border security and immigration laws.

For the better part of President Joe Biden’s (D) time in the White House, Republicans have been in conflict with Biden over the “border crisis.”

In the letter, Roy writes that “Secretary Mayorkas is actively failing to attain and maintain control of the southern border by weakening our security apparatus and implementing policies attracting record-breaking numbers of illegal migrants and bad actors seeking to be released into the United States.”

The Texas Republican also shares that Mayorkas’ “actions have resulted in the death and endangerment of Americans and the migrants seeking to come here.”

“He has allowed for damage to property and communities across the border, loss of operational control of our border to dangerous cartels imprisoning thousands of migrants sold into human trafficking, and the fueling of deadly drugs that are poisoning tens of. Thousands of Americans annually,” Roy added, noting that “Secretary Mayorkas’ dereliction of duty is a clear violation of his oath of office.”

To combat the rise of fentanyl at the border, Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R) and Florida Rep. Mike Waltz (R) have introduced a bill that would allow for military force to be used against drug cartels.

This week, Mayorkas stirred some controversy after having expressed that he would not call the recent uptick in illegal immigration a crisis. Instead, he defined that "a crisis speaks... of a withdrawal, from our mission."

"We are only putting more force and more energy into it," he said.

I have tremendous faith in the people of the Department of Homeland Security. And a crisis speaks to me of a withdrawal from our mission. And, and we are only putting more force and more energy into it.
