Abbott Says Ending Title 42 is 'Laying Welcome Mat'

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) excoriated President Joe Biden (R) this week on Title 42. The Governor, who’s been at odds with Biden on illegal immigration, held a press conference this week to discuss how the state plans to respond to the ending of Title 42. In response, Abbott says that Biden is "laying down a welcome mat" by ending Title 42.

Republicans have launched criticism at President Biden for a number of issues, but with Title 42 coming to an end on May 11th, Republicans like Florida Rep. Cory Mills (R) have signaled the alarm.

Rep. Cory Mills, this week, addressed the ending of Title 42 on Fox News, calling on Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas to be removed from office, to resign, or to be impeached because "he has put American lives at risk" and he has put "children's lives at risk."

Mills went on to explain that in 2022, the government found that 2.3 million people came into the country. This year, 1.3 million have come into the country. Because of this, Mills stressed that the end of Title 42 would put Custom and Border Patrol at a disadvantage.

During a press conference on "securing the border," Governor Abbott further shared that "with the Biden administration ending Title 42 Thursday, President Biden is laying down a welcome mat."

Governor Abbott warned that the Biden administration is anticipating "about 13,000 people coming across the border illegally every day."

"If you extend that out over the course of a year, it means there will be 4, 700, 000 people coming across the board a year" he added, saying that this means "there will be more people coming across the border illegally than there are residents of the massive city of Chicago."

In early April, Texas Rep. Chip Roy (R) called on the Department of Homeland Security to cease funding Secretary Mayorkas' salary, arguing that he is jeopardizing Americans' lives by not effectively addressing the border crisis.
