The Hunter Biden charges continue to be a controversial topic of discussion in the political world. As Republicans call on further investigations, Democrats are ready to move past it. In an exclusive interview with Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D), the Democratic lawmaker shared her thoughts on Biden’s guilty plea. Rep. Lee is calling on people to accept the “will of the justice system.”
This week, reports circulated informing that Hunter Biden had pled guilty to federal charges consisting of tax evasion and illegal possession of a gun. Immediately, Republicans took to social media to comment on the plea deal, making calls for more investigations. However, Rep. Lee questions the nature of the calls and notes that it could be an attempt by Republicans to smear President Joe Biden (D) as the election season unfolds.
“It bares question the urgency for investigating the family and not accepting Hunter Biden’s plea agreement by a Trump appointed U.S. attorney,” she said, adding that the American people will not linger on the subject because “the American people will look at what this administration has been able to do for them.”
“It changed their lives; it saved them through the pandemic with urgently moving forward with both testing and vaccines. It has put money in their pocket with the child tax credit, it is doing a catastrophic, significant, and unbelievably powerful change infrastructure, moving quickly to improve the quality of life, and it is realistically dealing with climate change and healthcare issues,” she added.
When asked if Democrats were relieved that this was over given his plea deal, Rep. Lee simply said that she would “recite the president’s words – he is proud of his son. For all of us that are mothers and father, that’s how we look at it. The justice system has presented us with its will, and I abide by the will of the justice system.”
