Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R) is pushing back against gender transition surgery in children. Crenshaw is citing numerous polls, indicating that a strong majority of Americans do not agree with minors undergoing gender transition surgery.

During a House health hearing this week, Crenshaw criticized Democratic lawmakers, arguing that they are defending sex change surgery for children. The topic has been a prominent political discussion in the political landscape, and it appears that it’ll be a 2024 presidential staple.

“I am not the one who is cruel,” Crenshaw admitting, adding that what’s cruel is both “doing a double mastectomy on a 12-year-old girl” and “castrating a ten-year-old boy.”

“Putting them on permanent hormone therapy and puberty blockers that could prevent them from ever having children permanently changing their physiology,” he said, calling it “cruelty… for sure.”

Crenshaw shared that there’s been a 45,000% increase in transition surgeries at hospitals that offer the procedure, and he posited that “peer influence” has been a major factor in the significant increase in surgeries.

Questioning why people would support the procedure on children if there is a high risk involved regarding their future biology and mental health, Crenshaw argued that “when every single piece of evidence shows that there’s not a clear benefit associated with it, you just press pause. Heck, we’re not even pressing pause. We’re saying don’t fund institutions that are actively doing it.”

Further criticizing Democrats for not acknowledging the percentage of Americans that don’t support the procedure, Crenshaw cited that “roughly 70%” of U.S. teens that undergo the procedure are stricken with co-morbid psychiatric diagnosis.

“Do you not care about that when you’re claiming that refusing this kind of care is causing suicide? Do you not care that those preconditions might have already been there? Is that not a fact that you would want to look at before you automatically propose permanent physiological change as someone?” Crenshaw questioned.
