Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) is receiving much criticism from Texas Representatives for the "inhumane" practices taking place at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Texas Representative Veronica Escobar (D) expressed her disgust with the laws enacted by the governor.

“Last night’s revelations about the practices and policies used at the direction of @GregAbbott_TX follow his long pattern of ineffective and inhumane directives. I’d say he should be ashamed of himself, but I’m not sure he’s capable of such an emotion.”

Texas Representative Greg Casar (D) characterized Gov. Abbott’s actions as crossing a line, as well as being self-centered.

“Greg Abbott’s actions on the border are inhumane, villainous, and out of step with Texas values — and they’re all about politics. Abbott wants his name in the headlines — even if it means a child’s name gets put in the obituaries.”

“Texans want to live in a state that gives water to thirsty children at the border — not in a state where children are pushed into the water to drown. Thanks to my Texas Democratic colleagues for joining me in denouncing Greg Abbott’s latest act of cruelty,” continued Rep. Casar.

Texas Representative Sylvia Garcia (D) stated her disapproval of Gov. Abbott's immigration policies for their lack of humanity.

“Governor Abbott's heartless anti-immigration policies prey on vulnerable children seeking asylum in America. We can’t stand by as this happens. Migrants deserve to be treated with dignity and compassion, not by this relentless dehumanization!”

State troopers “were given orders to push the people back into the water to go to Mexico.” Reports show that medics were also told to push migrants back into the water, including a 4-year-old girl who’d passed out from the 100 degree weather.

Texas Representative Joaquin Castro (D) attacked the governor’s policies, expressing his desire to restore human rights to those attempting to cross the border.

“This is absolutely monstrous, inhumane policy. Governor Abbott's troops have been told to push migrant children back into the Rio Grande to drown.”

“I raised the issue of @GovAbbott's barbarity at a dinner tonight with @SecBlinken. I read him the title and first paragraph of the @ExpressNews article and urged the Administration to intervene — and to remove the death traps Abbott has installed for the sake of human rights.”

Texas Representative Tony Gonzales (D) shared how the disturbing actions at the border troubled him as a father.

“Border security should not equal a lack of humanity. As a father of six, I find it disturbing for anyone, much less a child, to be deprived of water in 100-degree weather, regardless of their immigration status.”

“We are a nation of laws, which means illegal immigration should absolutely be deterred. I applaud our law enforcement officers on the front lines for working so hard to that end.”

“We are also a nation that believes in basic human dignity, and there is a fine line between cracking down on bad actors and issuing harsh life-threatening directives that can cause harm to children and vulnerable families.”

Border security continues to be a hot button issue for lawmakers around the country, especially in Texas. Furthermore, Abbott is continually facing criticism from Texas representatives. It will be interesting to see how he adjust his policies.
