Troy Nehls Will Nominate Donald Trump for Speaker of the House

The political world is in a frenzy as House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R) has been voted out of his position. After Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) introduced a resolution to oust the speaker of the house, eight Republicans joined Democrats in voting against McCarthy. As lawmakers rush to find a replacement, Texas Rep. Troy Nehls (R) has announced that he will nominate President Donald Trump (R) for speaker of the house.

North Carolina Rep. Patrick McHenry (R) is currently serving as speaker of the house pro tempore after McCarthy was ousted.

Gaetz joined seven other Republicans in voting to oust the Republican leader, and since the vote was finalized, he’s admitted that it was done for the good of the country.

With Republicans expressing their disapproval of the vote, Texas Rep. Nehls has emerged with a solution he finds fitting – voting President Trump in as speaker of the house.

In a statement, Nehls made his intention clear by saying that “this week, when the U.S. House of Representatives reconvenes, my first order of business will be to nominate Donald J. Trump for Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.”

“President Trump, the greatest President of my lifetime, has a proven record of putting America First and will make the House great again,” Nehls added.

President Trump has not responded to the announcement and neither has any other Republican.

Outside of the Capitol, while speaking to reporters, Gaetz offered New York Rep. Lee Zeldin (R) as a possible replacement, and Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise (R) has also been referenced as a possible replacement.

McCarthy’s time as Speaker comes to an end just months after assuming the position, which came after a contentious voting process that saw him receive tough opposition from members of his own party.

McCarthy is the first speaker of the house to ever be voted out of his office.
