In a recent series of tweets, Texas Representative Veronica Escobar (D) discussed the upcoming spending bill that will help Congress avoid a government shutdown.

The Texas lawmaker lambasted the House GOP for their perceived lack of direction. Earlier in the year, after much infighting, former speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R) was able to get a bill passed to avoid a shutdown.

"With the federal government now 8 days away from a shutdown, House Republicans are leading us down an unworkable path with no clear solution unless we pass another temporary continuing resolution"

Rep. Escobar claimed that the bills proposed by the GOP-controlled House were unrealistic as she believes that they would be DOA. The congresswoman's thoughts aren't unfounded as Speaker Johnson's foreign aid bill didn't gain traction after being passed by the House.

"Each year, Congress has to pass 12 appropriations bills to fund the government. House Republicans are behind on the normal timeline, having barely passed half the necessary bills. But these bills are Republican wishlists that won't get through a Dem Senate and WH."

Infighting has been a real problem for Republicans as the party recently ousted its speaker in a historic move.

"Even then, there's still Republican infighting about what they want and don't want in each bill. We've just been dismissed for the week because Republicans pulled the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations bill. Why? Because they don't have the votes."

Rep. Escobar appealed to the American people as she criticized the legislation put forth by House Republicans.

"I say with confidence that the American people are tired of these unworkable, unrealistic "proposals" put forth by my Republican colleagues. They're wasting everyone's time while the stakes of an impending government shutdown continue to loom."

The Texas congresswoman stated a familiar rhetoric that has been made especially popular by Democrats. "Republicans don't know how to govern. So either step up, roll up your sleeves, and come back to Earth, or get out of the way and let us handle this like we have every other crisis," stated Rep. Escobar.

While the GOP has struggled to bring forth bills that will avert a shutdown, they have been able to subpoena several individuals in relation to their probe of the current president.

Representative James Comer (R-MN), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has officially subpoenaed President Joe Biden's brother James and son Hunter Biden. The GOP subpoena, which has been in talks for months, has received much criticism from Democratic lawmakers who view the move as being politically motivated.

By subpoenaing the Bidens for questioning, the GOP can come closer to their desire to formally impeach the president. However, Democrats view these inquiries as being reactionary to the two impeachments against former president Donald Trump (R).

“These subpoenas and interview requests are yet further proof that this sham impeachment inquiry is driven only by the demands of the vengeful and prevaricating Donald Trump,” said Representative Jamie Raskin, chairman of the Democratic Oversight Committee.
