The election of Javier Milei in Argentina has sent shockwaves around the world. The libertarian firebrand has vowed to reclaim the country’s economic standing, but his abrasive style has drawn detractors. Still, politicians from across the world are bracing to develop a relationship with the newly elected official, but Republicans like Florida Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R) and Texas Rep. Chip Roy (R) are celebrating President Milei’s victory.

President Milei has been likened to President Donald Trump (R), and President Milei’s election on November 19thsurprised political pundits despite a decisive victory.

One of the first lawmakers to congratulate him on his victory was Rep. Salazar. Given that President Milei has noted that the United States and Israel would be two of Argentina’s greatest allies, Republicans in the U.S. are now embracing the new president.

Taking to social media, Rep. Salazar shared a letter penned by her and Rep. Roy. “Javier Milei’s message to the Argentine people is clear: The only way to undo decades of socialist management is to embrace economic liberty,” Salazar captioned the post.

In the letter, Reps. Salazar and Roy praise Milei for winning his campaign on a “message of freedom, liberty, and advancing economic prosperity through limited government and fiscal responsibility.”

Both lawmakers express that they are looking forward to partnering with the new president in the remainder of the 118th Congress, and they also point out the benefits that Argentina should benefit from under his leadership.

“Argentina can usher in a new era of economic prosperity, and rampant inflation brought on by years of leftist fiscal and monetary policy, and serve as another beacon of liberty in the Western Hemisphere,” they write, adding that they “look forward to working… to promote economic growth and security in the Western Hemisphere through trade and other mechanisms while combatting the growing influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Russia, Venezuela, and repressive socialist ideologies in South America.”
