Texas Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne (R) was highly critical of the news that the Department of Justice (DOJ) plans to sue Texas if S.B. 4 is enforced.
In a tweet, Rep. Van Duyne made her qualms about the potential DOJ lawsuit very clear.
“Once again, the Biden Administration WILL DO ANYTHING to prevent even a shred of security at our southern border. Overwhelming our nation with mass illegal immigration is EXACTLY what these insane extremists want. I hope the Mayors of New York, Chicago, and every other Sanctuary City are ready to share in the pain caused by Biden’s PURPOSEFUL Border Disaster,” tweeted the Texas congresswoman.

On Dec. 28, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) sent out a similar tweet against the Biden administration's response to the controversial border security measure.
“The Biden Admin. not only refuses to enforce current U.S. immigration laws, they now want to stop Texas from enforcing laws against illegal immigration. I’ve never seen such hostility to the rule of law in America. Biden is destroying America. Texas is trying to save it.”
S.B. 4, which was signed on Dec. 18, has received a strong backlash from Democratic Texas representatives as well as Democrat members of Congress across the country.
“I signed a law yesterday to criminalize illegal entry into Texas & authorize the removal or imprisonment of illegal immigrants crossing our southern border. Texas will continue stepping up until we have a new president who will enforce the law,” said Gov. Abbott in a statement.
However, some of the bill's opponents deem it to be “unconstitutional”, dangerous and reckless. One of the bill's opponents, Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian Boynton, expressed similar sentiments while warning Gov. Abbott of the repercussions.
“Because SB 4 is unconstitutional and will disrupt the federal government's operations, we request that Texas forbear in its enforcement,” wrote Boynton.
The Abbott administration, however, has continued to resist calls to stop the “inhumane” treatment of migrants who have crossed the U.S.-Mexico border.
