Representative Pete Sessions (R-TX) stood on Capitol Hill to discuss how the Republican Conference plans to address the immigration crisis at the border.
Rep. Sessions joined Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) alongside more than 60 Republican members of Congress in Eagle Pass, Texas to see the border in person. He provided his testimony regarding what he witnessed.
In ongoing negotiations, Republicans aim to empower federal agents to regain border control, while the Biden Admin's priorities will only increase the number of illegal migrants released into the U.S.

“Eagle Pass, Texas had been overrun by illegal immigrants. 3,000 a day for weeks. We show up and the drug cartels turn off the spigot; less than 50 people came across. [The cartels] control the border. They didn’t like the narrative of us seeing the mess,” said Rep. Sessions.
He continued by predicting what will happen media-wise when Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas makes a trip to the border, something that Sessions said will happen soon.
“By the way, the Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas will be down. I’m sure he’ll see where there’s nothing there. He will be able to bring back the story of ‘not a problem at the border.’ It’s not true,” said the Texas congressman.
Furthermore, Sessions spoke on how the Republican Conference plans to tackle the immigration crisis and how high of a priority the border is to them.
“So, the discussion that I and my colleagues are having up here this week is, how important it is, that no matter what budget deal we come up with in Washington to fund the government for 2024, it includes answers about the borders, not just Texas.” said Sessions. “It’s national security, and it’s all 50 states.”
In an appearance on CNN, Sessions discussed whether he would be willing to stop aid to Ukraine in order to provide funding for solutions to the migrant crisis.
After three years of urging the Biden Admin to regain operational control of the southern border, time has run out.

“The answer is: Russia is a pack of thugs. And it is in America’s best interest that we have Ukraine get our resources, get our front-line opportunities, whether it be F-16s – I didn’t say American pilots, but we use our intelligence and that we send Russia home if we don’t defeat them. But, would I actually vote against the full package that’s in February if we do not get something on the border, that answer is yes.”
Congressman Sessions represents Texas’ 17th District.
