Texas lawmakers took to social media to celebrate Presidents’ Day and focus on the U.S.’s legacy and core tenets.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) emphasized the country’s characteristics that define the nation.
“Happy Presidents Day. Today, we honor the legacy of America’s Presidents. They have helped shape our nation into the beacon of freedom, hope, and opportunity it is today,” said the Texas lawmaker.

Recently, Gov. Abbott has taken a lot of criticism for his “inhumane” tactics at the border. The governor is currently defying orders from the Biden administration and insists on guarding the border in a way that has angered many.
Texas Representative Wesley Hunt (R) gave a simple message on the holiday.
“Happy President’s Day!” said Rep. Hunt.

The Texas representative has repeatedly blasted the Biden administration and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas for their legislation and handling of the border.
Texas Representative Sylvia Garcia (D) not only celebrated the country but the “leaders” in the country as well.
“Today, let's honor the leaders who shaped our nation's past, reflect on their legacies, and aspire to build a brighter future. Happy Presidents' Day!”

Rep. Garcia has continuously promoted her “Dignity Act” which seeks to address immigration-related issues, such as increasing hiring for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel and providing removal deferral for eligible non-U.S. nationals (aliens under federal law).
Texas Representative Vicente Gonzalez (D) wished all those in Texas, specifically South Texas, a happy Presidents’ Day.
“Happy #PresidentsDay, South Texas!” said Rep. Gonzalez.

Unlike some lawmakers, Texas Representative Greg Casar (D) focused on a different day. Rep. Casar honored those who innocently lost their lives via imprisonment by the U.S. government.
“On the Day of Remembrance for Japanese Internment, we honor the innocent men & women that were unjustly incarcerated by our government. We must continue to reflect on our nation’s history — including examples of injustice — and always push back against xenophobia,” said the Texas lawmaker.

Texas Representative Beth Van Duyne (R) celebrated the day with a brief history of the holiday’s origin and honored those who served in the military, as well.
“Happy Presidents’ Day! On the anniversary of President George Washington’s birthday, I’m taking a moment to remember the service and sacrifice of our first president and those who have served since,” said Rep. Van Duyne.

Presidents' Day originally only celebrated George Washington's birthday. However, over time, the day came to commemorate President Abraham Lincoln's birthday as well. The day is celebrated on every third Monday of February.
