Roy Says GOP Letting ‘the Swamp Dictate the Terms’ of Issues

Texas Rep. Chip Roy (R) is airing out his frustration with Republicans. This is nothing new as, earlier this year, Rep. Roy complained that Republicans have not done enough to secure the border. This week, Rep. Roy continues to call out Republicans for letting “the swamp dictate the terms” on political matters.

Taking to social media to share his grievances with his party, Rep. Roy released a series of posts on X, arguing that Republicans have broken their promise of securing the border and also cutting funding to President Joe Biden’s (D) “radical progressive Democrat agenda.”

Currently, Rep. Roy laments that Republicans have shared no plans to push back against the Biden administration.

“The current ‘plan’ is to pass GOP-negotiated funding bills we haven’t seen yet… that will give $30BB MORE than Pelosi’s FY23 omnibus to Biden & progressive Dems by embracing spending ‘side deals’ that are NOT even law,” Rep. Roy shared. What this does is remove a government shutdown from the table of negotiation, which he argues means that Republicans have “no leverage” in the discussion.

“Worse, we are told that because there is war in Ukraine & China is dangerous, a CR that doesn’t ‘increase’ defense spending ‘doesn’t meet the moment.’ That’s why they aren’t leveraging spending caps in law!” Rep. Roy added.

In turn, while there won’t be a government shutdown, the Texas Republican says that Republicans “must eat HIGHER spending than Pelosi & temper expectations on so-called policy riders… to only ‘singles & doubles… which means no real wins on, e.g., border policies to end releases” and other concerns.

The comments come as Republican outcry amplifies regarding the murder of a 22-year-old nursing student. The suspect in her killing is a 26-year-old illegal immigrant from Venezuela, and Republicans have directed blame at both President Biden and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.
