De La Cruz Says Democrats Can 'No Longer Deny' Crisis at Border

Representative Monica De La Cruz (R-TX) spoke to Texas Politics regarding President Biden’s (D) performance and whether he can attempt to unite the country before the State of the Union.

In response, Rep. De La Cruz questioned the President’s presence at the southern border during his tenure in the Oval Office, asking, “Where was Biden then?”

“We have seen three years of a failed Biden administration. He’s failing us specifically in South Texas when it comes to supporting our Border Patrol and Customs agents, but just law and order at our southern border – President Biden barely showed up last week in Brownsville, Texas,” said Rep. De La Cruz.

She continued, “We don’t have the illegal immigration issues that we had three years ago. Three years ago, we had 30,000 illegal immigrants coming in a day in the Rio Grande Valley. Where was President Biden then? Nowhere to be found. He wouldn’t even discuss it. But yet, last week, he shows up for a photo opportunity?

Rep De La Cruz all but said that Biden's visit to the southern border was simply political in nation.

"He showed up because in the primary in deep south Texas where it’s 90% Hispanic, you saw an over 50% increase in Republican turnout. These are astounding numbers. And that’s the only reason President Biden went last week," De La Cruz added.

Furthermore, Texas Politics asked De La Cruz how she felt regarding House Democrats pivoting to being open to reinstating “Remain in Mexico” immigration policies.

For instance, Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) said that she was open to revisiting Remain in Mexico , if it works" with the “greatest consensus” of the Democratic Caucus.

“Well, those are proposals that have been around for a long time. And my view of it is Congressman Cuellar lives on the border, and so does Congresswoman Vicente Gonzales. They’re both friends of mine, I’ve been dealing with immigration issues for 29 years … So, my view is there are a lot of suggestions on the table,” said Rep. Jackson Lee. “Remain in Mexico is a position that we’ve held. Let me see whether it’ll work, and working with the greatest consensus for our caucus, and let’s move forward.”

De La Cruz responded by saying that Democrats can “no longer deny” the crisis at the border.

“The Democrats can no longer deny what has been happening the last three years. 10 million illegal immigrants. And Governor Abbott, thank God for such a fearless leader that he smartly sent illegal immigrants to Democratic sanctuary cities. So, now we’re seeing the problems in Democrat communities such as New York City, so they are forced to acknowledge the situation and to put pressure on President Biden to secure our border.”

Congresswoman De La Cruz represents Texas’ 15th District.
