A new Cruz-supporting campaign advertisement directly blames Texas Rep. Colin Allred (D) for the death of Jocelyn Nungaray. In the ad titled "Alexis," Jocelyn's mother, Alexis Nungaray, discusses the horrible death of her daughter at the hands of two illegal immigrants. Nungaray warns that Rep. Allred should not be elected to the Senate because "his policies are why she's dead."
Earlier this year, two illegal immigrants from Venezuela were charged with the murder of Jocelyn Nungaray in Texas. The murder attracted widespread media attention as the southern border and illegal immigration have been at the forefront of the 2024 presidential election.
In the newly-released advertisement, Alexis Nungaray laments that her daughter's assailants were "each released on the same day were detained" because of the "Catch & Release" policy. Subsequently, "not even thirty days later, she [Jocelyn] was found down there in the bayou. She had no pants on. They bounded her feet, and they just left her like nothing."
Alexis now warns against Rep. Allred being elected to the Senate because "Colin Allred pushing that policy ultimately took my daughter's life."
Rep. Allred has responded to the advertisement, accusing Senator Ted Cruz (R) of using Jocelyn's death for "political gain." The senatorial hopeful also questioned, "Why has he not been a part of the efforts to secure the border?" Senator Cruz has refuted the claim that he hasn't worked diligently on the issue, questioning instead why Rep. Allred hasn't voted in favor of H.R.2., a bill Senator Cruz coauthored and calls "the toughest border security legislation that has ever been put forth."
In the advertisement, Alexis further warns against Rep. Allred, being elected to the Senate, saying that “if Colin Allred were elected, my heart would break again.”
"Allred didn't kill my daughter, but his policies are why she's dead," Alexis affirms.
She further responded to Rep. Allred's comments about her advertisement, commenting that "for “Colin Allred to say that Sen. Cruz and I advocating for stronger immigration laws is only for political gain is a slap in the face to me." "I’m not doing this for anyone’s gain. I’m doing this to solely advocate for my daughter," she added.
Jocelyn’s voice was ripped away from her. It is now my duty as a mother to forever be her voice, and no one will ever take that away from me. Colin Allred has no right to tell me how to fight for my daughter’s memory,” she affirmed.
