DSCC Launches Multimillion-Dollar Effort Against Cruz, Scott

Earlier this month, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) signaled that it would possibly make a push in Florida. In order to help flip the states blue, the DSCC is now investing to combat Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) and Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R). Despite both incumbent senators leading in the polls, the DSCC believes that each state is at play.

The DSCC announced this week that it would be making its first multimillion-dollar tv investments in Texas and Florida. The effort will support the spending that both Texas Rep. Colin Allred (D) and former Florida Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D) are already making in their respective senate races.

In a statement, Michigan Senator Gary Peters (D), who is the chairman of the DSCC, commented that "Senate Democrats are expanding the map and going on offense." "All cycle long the DSCC has been preparing to take advantage of Sens. Cruz and Scott's damaged standings in their states - and now our efforts in Texas and Florida are accelerating," he added.

The Democratic chairman further commented that "Democrats have strong candidates running effective campaigns in both states, and as we escalate our communications against Sens. Cruz and Scott we will crystallize the case against them."

The DSCC is already investing $25 million in both Florida and Texas for voter contact programs. As well, it is funding on-the-ground staff and digital ads in both states, which call out the Republican incumbents over their opposition to the Senate border security bill.

Earlier this week, Senator Cruz dismissed Rep. Allred's candidacy, assuring that "his 'open border' record is a train wreck, which is why he's desperately trying to run away from it."

Rep. Allred further received scrutiny this week after an advertisement titled "Alexis" blamed him for the death of Jocelyn Nungaray. The senatorial hopeful criticized the advertisement, accusing Senator Cruz of utilizing the death of Jocelyn for "political gain."
