Scott Receives Hurricane Briefing, Doubles Down on Call for Schumer to Reconvene Senate

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) has been traveling around the state assessing and assisting with Hurricane Milton relief efforts. After spending time in Fort Myers, the former governor visited Punta Gorda and received a briefing from local leaders, law enforcement, and emergency management officials in areas affected by the storm.

The Sunshine State senator is “urging those in need” to use federal resources provided to them by agencies such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“The number one thing I want to reiterate today for families in Punta Gorda and across the state is that everyone must stay vigilant and stay safe,” said Sen. Scott. “Recovery begins right now but you can't recover if you lose your life by taking risks after this storm. I just spoke to President Biden about the response and recovery and told him I am completely focused on making sure that FEMA, SBA, HUD and USDA are fully funded.”

Furthermore, Sen. Scott doubled down on his call for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to reconvene the upper chamber so that the aforementioned federal agencies can be funded for disaster relief.

“We need to have boots on the ground until Florida is fully recovered. Also, I’ve demanded that Majority Leader Chuck Schumer immediately reconvene the Senate once FEMA and the SBA finalize damage assessments so we can fully fund these agencies and others responding to this disaster with a clean disaster supplemental appropriations bill and common sense disaster relief legislation like my Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act,” said Sen. Scott. “I’ll be fighting like hell to deliver disaster aid to our state, and ensure seamless debris removal guidance for our local communities.”

Finally, the senator requested that Florida residents obey law enforcement and reemphasized that Floridians will make it through the tough times.

We will recover and we will rebuild even stronger,” said Scott. “I have nine offices around the state, so please if you need any help with a federal agency, go to www.rickscott.senate.gov.”

Sen. Scott is facing reelection and holds a seven-point leader over his challenger, former Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL), according to the latest AIF Poll.
