Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) sent a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) appreciating his leadership in standing against “radical progressive Democrats’ efforts to hijack the federal court system,” among other concerns. Rep. Roy is accusing the Judicial Conference of using its power to degrade the ability of states to defend itself against the federal government in court.
The Texas congressman believes the Judicial Conference is attempting to engage in “unlawful left-wing activism, but Chairman Jordan is standing in the way. Rep. Roy is requesting he continue his stubbornness on this issue until the Conference changes its processes.
“As you know, it is critical for the House Judiciary Committee to protect against unlawful left-wing activism – whether it is packing the courts or a backdoor judicial rule-making exercise designed to stop judges from carrying out their duty according to current congressional enacted law,” began Rep. Roy.
He continued by sharing that the Judicial Conference wants single-judge divisions prohibited from cases that impact state or federal action to help progressive agendas.
“The Judicial Conference – the policymaking body for federal courts – has been considering efforts to prohibit single-judge divisions from hearing cases ‘that seek to bar or mandate state or federal actions.’ These cases would be subject to a ‘district-wide random selection process,’ flying in the face of existing statutes requiring district courts to decide how to assign cases,” said Rep. Roy. “This clearly is rooted in the desire of a few progressive Democrats to limit states like Texas’ ability to halt federal actions that adversely impact Texans, including the work of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.”
Finally, the Texas lawmaker thanked Jordan for his efforts.
“I greatly appreciated working with you and Judiciary Committee staff this summer to ensure that the Committee refuses to move legislation supported by the Judicial Conference until it abandons this dangerous proposal to disenfranchise Texans and other Americans … Under your tenure as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, the Committee has stood firm against radical progressive efforts to remake the federal judiciary, and this is just one more example,” concluded Roy.
Chip Roy represents Texas’ 21st Congressional District.
