2024 presidential election

Rubio, Scott, Cotton Stump for Republicans Senate Incumbents, Back Cruz

Senators Rick Scott (R-FL), Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Tom Cotton (R-AR) appeared on Fox News's “The Story with Martha MacCallum” to discuss the latest in foreign affairs and their party’s Senate races, such as the close race between Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Representative Colin Allred (D-TX). The trio sat in front of a crowd for a “get out the vote” rally in Boca Raton, Florida, as Sen. Scott is facing a challenge for his seat from former Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL). Some of the latest polling shows that the gap between the two is tightening.

Throughout the segment, MacCallum questioned the senators on whether Republicans can take back the upper chamber and allow former President Donald Trump (R) to have the ability to smoothly transition into his agenda, should he be elected.

Sen. Rubio emphasized that without a Senate majority, former President Trump's time in office would yield a much larger roadblock than anticipated.

"But we don't just have to win the presidential race. We have to win these Senate races. It starts here in Florida ... But we need to win these other seats around the country. Donald Trump is going to become President. If he doesn't have a Senate majority, starting here in Florida, including Texas and other places, keeping what we have," said Sen. Rubio. "If he doesn't have a Senate majority, he can't get his people confirmed. Chuck Schumer is not going to confirm any of the people that he needs on his team to get his agenda for America."

Sen. Cotton mentioned that reelecting GOP incumbents needs to be a top priority.

“Obviously, we want to reelect all of our great incumbents. That starts with Rick Scott right here in Florida, but it's also in states like Texas with Ted Cruz or Nebraska with Deb Fischer,” said Sen. Cotton. “I know everyone's focused a lot on the pickup opportunities we have. We've got a lot of them, but we got to make sure that we return our great Republican senators, like Rick Scott, like Ted Cruz, like Deb Fischer.”

Sen. Cotton continued, throwing a jab at the Democrat incumbents for appearing to cozy up to Trump to gain support in the general election.

“But then we got to go out and expose all those Democrats who vote 100% of the time of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in Washington. But then they go back to places like Montana for Jon Tester, Ohio for Sherrod Brown, and act like they’re right there with Donald Trump, they’re his wingman. They're fighting alongside them. Don't believe it for a second. Get out and go Republican,” said Cotton.

Finally, Sens. Rubio and Scott were asked about Scott’s attempt to win reelection. The former described him as the “hardest working person” he knows in the upper chamber, and Sen. Scott shared an optimistic prediction as the election draws nearer.

“Well, first of all, this is the hardest-working person I know in the Senate. I can tell you that. If our voters work as hard for him as he works for them, he’s going to win; he’s going to win big,” said Rubio.

Sen. Scott concluded, “We’re going to have a big win because people are coming out to vote because they know this is the most important election of our lifetime. Donald Trump will be our next president; we’ll have a big majority in the Senate and in the House.”

Election Day takes place on Nov. 5.
