Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R) shared a a video this week from a 2020 campaign stop that Vice President Kamala Harris (D) took part in. The video, taken in 2019, shows Vice President Harris answering questions during an Iowa event. In the event, the presidential hopeful commits to closing detention centers "on day one." Calling Vice President Harris an "extremist," the Texas senator warned that Texas Rep. Colin Allred (D) supports the same.
Both President Donald Trump (R) and Vice President Harris are campaigning in Texas today. Vice President Harris will be in Houston where she'll share the stage with Beyonce and Rep. Allred. As Rep. Allred looks to unseat Senator Cruz, the incumbent senator has amplified his case that "Colin Allred is Kamala Harris."

In the footage Senator Cruz shared on social media, an attendee asks then-senator Harris if she would commit to closing "immigration detention centers" should she be elected president. In response, she answers, "absolutely, on day one."
In response to Vice President Harris' commitment, Senator Cruz commented that "12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray was murdered in Houston by two illegal aliens that the Biden-Harris administration released from detention."
"Now, Colin Allred is campaigning with Kamala Harris in the same city where Jocelyn was killed," the Texas senator added, urging Rep. Allred to apologize to Jocelyn's mother, Alexis Nungaray.
Alexis appeared in an advertisement against Rep. Allred earlier this year, accusing the Democratic congressman of being directly responsible for the death of Jocelyn. Responding to the advertisement, Rep. Allred pushed back against the claims, accusing Senator Cruz of using Jocelyn's death for "political gain."
"It is absolutely callous that he would campaign with such an extremist," Senator Cruz continued on social media, accusing Rep. Allred of being "far too radical for Texas."
This is the first time that Vice President Harris campaigns in Texas since becoming the presidential nominee.
