Burrows Takes Victory Lap. But now What?
Newly-minted Texas Speaker of the House of Representatives Dustin Burrows (R) didn't waste time in announcing his staff and release support for his "conservative" bona fides.
In a press release, Speaker Burrows stated the following:
· The Honorable Robert Duncan – Chief of Staff
· Zak Covar – Deputy Chief of Staff
· The Honorable Tracy King – Senior Advisor
· Matt Crow – District Affairs Coordinator
· Paige Holzheauser - Director of the Office of the Speaker
· Cait Wittman – Communications Director
Prior to this press release, in an other media snippet from Speaker Burrows, Rep. Jeff Leach is taped praising Burrows' conservatism even though the bulk, (if not all) of the conservative faction of the Republican House Caucus voted against his speakership.
“It’s no question for me who is best prepared and trusted to lead the House. And for me and the constituents that I represent here in Collin County, that’s representative Burrows.” – Rep. Jeff Leach
Texas Democrats Take Credit
This is bound to happen. Actually, it was expected that Texas House Democrats would go out and publicly take credit for helping elect Speaker Burrows. This can only enrage Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, who has vowed to crush any legislation that has the majority support of House Democrats.
