Speaker Burrows Praises Abbott’s State of the State Address

Following Governor Greg Abbott’s (R) State of the State address, Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows (R) expressed his support for the governor’s legislative priorities on social media.

In Speaker Burrows' response, he emphasized that that the House, Senate, and Governor’s Office are largely aligned on key issues.

“This session, the Texas House is committed to delivering conservative, common-sense solutions to the state’s most pressing issues—issues on which Governor @GregAbbott_TX, the House and Senate are clearly largely aligned,” the speaker wrote in his post on X.

The governor’s address detailed his vision for the Lone Star state, highlighting priorities such as school choice, tax relief, and infrastructure improvements. Speaker Burrows echoed these themes, emphasizing the House’s commitment to strengthening education, reducing government inefficiencies, and cutting property taxes for Texans.

“Tonight’s #StateoftheState address reinforced the priorities that will demand lawmakers’ attention this session, including strengthening education through school choice and school finance investments, securing our water future, improving government efficiency, cutting property taxes, and ensuring our students are prepared to meet the demands of a growing workforce, among others,” Speaker Burrows wrote on social media.

He also highlighted his focus on supporting small businesses, and he pledged to reduce regulations and fees that will translate to economic growth. “I am especially eager for the Texas House to address the challenges small businesses face by reducing burdensome regulations and fees and ensuring entrepreneurs can succeed in our state,” he wrote.

“I appreciate Governor Abbott’s advocacy on these issues and look forward to working with members across both chambers to pass these items into law before the Legislature adjourns sine die,” the speaker concluded on social media.

Speaker Burrows is facing his own conflicts in the House as a growing number of Republicans are pushing back against him with accusations of sacrificing Republican priorities and empowering Democrats in the House.

The legislative session could test the unity of Texas Republicans.
