Congressman Ronny Jackson (R-TX) has reintroduced the No User Fees for Gun Owners Act, which would "prohibit any state or local government from requiring insurance, taxes, user fees, or similar burdensome charges" for the ownership of firearms, pistols, or revolvers.
Rep. Jackson shared that this bill would combat the "radical [left's]" attempts to strip the guarantees of the Second Amendment and that this piece of legislation would allow Americans to more freely exercise their rights.
“The radical Left has been trying to chip away at our Constitutional rights for years, particularly the right to bear arms,” said Rep. Jackson. “The Founding Fathers included the Second Amendment to ensure citizens could defend themselves. That's why I'm reintroducing the No User Fees for Gun Owners Act, to stop liberal Democrat state and local governments from forcing gun owners to pay additional insurance or taxes meant to limit gun ownership and make it too costly for the average American to exercise their Second Amendment right."
Furthermore, Rep. Jackson added that with President Donald Trump's (R) administration, the United States has a chance to reengage with its roots of liberty.
"Under President Trump’s leadership and a Republican controlled Congress, we have a chance to return to our country’s founding principles and protect Americans’ Second Amendment rights for generations to come," concluded Jackson.
The Texas congressman provided the following background for the No Users Fees for Gun Owners Act:
In 2022, San Jose passed a law that infringes on gun owners’ Second Amendment rights by forcing them to pay an annual fee and purchase liability insurance to cover damages from accidental or negligent use of their firearms. Representative Jackson’s No User Fees for Gun Owners Act would prevent San Jose, and other Blue cities, from imposing these burdensome and unconstitutional policies, protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners nationwide.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) has endorsed this bill.
